Shop!!

Mon Nov 16, 2009, 7:28 PM
It looks like my husband and I are going to purchase this tattoo shop. It's already established so we don't have to work up from scratch. It's an awesome location with a good amount of business, but we may change the name of it. :) Things seem to be really working out! :D

Also, I'm hosting a suspension event at my shop next month! Come get suspended, pierced, or tattooed before the year is over!! BBQ and giveaways too. I'll have more details soon. :)

Could I ask a favour? Could you send me a picture of the scars from the corset peircing in your hands? They're the most beautiful thing I've seen in my entire life and I've always wanted corset peircings even if it's just for a while, but I don't know what the scars would look like. They're SO pretty I've loved them for ages.

This isn't on me, it's on my best friend. It doesn't really scar with 14g and 16g captive bead rings. You do have marks for a few weeks though. :)

i love your body mods. i want to become a tatto artist and piercer myself. im 17 at the moment but am not sure what steps to take to get there. how did you become one? and got any tips to gettign there? : )

You have to put all of your time and effort into it. It's not something you can just do. This work becomes your life! You should start by taking out an apprenticeship in a shop. Get together a portfolio of your art and go to your local shops to see if they need one. Most places will say no, but if you really want it you will keep trying. Show them you're driven and want to make this a lifestyle. Some places will charge for an apprenticeship, some places don't, but you want to make sure you don't just apprentice with anyone. It's a long process from there. You work full time for free for a year, and you have to also work a paying job to buy the things you need. Most mentors wont let an apprentice even touch a machine for the first six months to a year, until you can understand how to use your machines and understand skin. You have to put up with a lot of bullshit, shit talking, harrassment, and anything else that gets thrown at you. It seems like a nice idea to learn from home, but then you're not learning the things you need to become a tattoo artist, like how to properly set up your machines, needle depth in the skin, how to clean your equipment, ect ect. Scratcher artists work from home, not a professional artist.

DRAW DRAW DRAW. A lot. Even if you can't find an apprenticeship right now, draw every day. Drawing and knowing how to draw are very important. Painting and understanding color helps.

I don't really have any tips. Maybe except for grow some balls, lol. People are not always kind to give up information in this industry, and newer people are usually treated poorly. I was treated pretty badly in my first year and a half, and I almost didn't make it. Most people don't make it passed the first year, and it's worse if you're a female. Most people think it's all fun and games and that you make a lot of money, but really it's hard work and you're poor. A lot. Half the time I don't have enough money to eat. So that's something to consider if you think this is something you can make as a stable career, especially in the first three to five years.

I can answer any other questions if you'd like. :) I hope this all helps.
